SECC Welcomes Westchester County Executive

Sound Shore Medical Center of Westchester’s Schaffer Extended Care Center recently welcomed County Executive Andrew Spano to their home.

Recently residents of Sound Shore Medical Center’s Schaffer Extended Care Center (SECC) graciously welcomed County Executive Andrew Spano to their home. They listened attentively to what he said, particularly about the quality of senior services in the County. Whether Mr. Spano’s record and his future plans won their endorsement remains to be seen, but these civic-minded citizens will certainly let him know on Election Day - when they cast their votes.

Joining the residents in welcoming Mr. Spano were members of SECC’s staff, including the Medical Director, Richard Barone, MD; and Vice President for Long Term Care and Administrator of SECC, Susan A. Sales. Joining them was John Mamangakis, Vice President of Operation at Sound Shore Medical Center.

The County Executive’s comment, “I am interested in seniors – I’m a senior myself,” received approval from those gathered. He shared statistics that one out of every five Westchester residents is over 65 and that the fastest growing segment is the 80+ group, which many found surprising. He went on to speak of the quality of the Westchester’s Senior Services as one of the best in the country. If re-elected, Mr. Spano said he would continue his work toward services that will allow seniors to “Age in Place”. Through absentee ballots, residents of Schaffer exercise their right to vote in national as well as local elections.

A 96-year old resident of Schaffer, Gordon Hanna, positioned himself in the front row for today’s event. Mr. Hanna said he knew the Spano Family when Andy was a small chap and wanted to be sure to say hello and hopefully get a photo with him. Since Mr. Hanna’s background involved politics, maybe his one-on-one chat with Mr. Spano included campaigning strategy for the Schaffer vote.
